| There are a variety of different types of general public transport that are available in Moscow. The Metro is the underground train system that services Moscow City. There are also trolley cars/trams (electric powered on tracks) that service fixed routes identified by description, throughout the Moscow area; trolley buses (electric powered on wheels, but attached to overhead power lines) that service fixed routes, identified by number/description throughout the Moscow area, and; Avtobus (small minivan carrying 12 - 15 people) that serviced regular routes identified by number, throughout the Moscow area. These are the primary sources of public transport and many people use a combination in their travels. Often your home or workplace will not be near a Metro and you will take either a trolley bus or tram and quite often an Avtobus, from a location near home or work to the Metro. If there is a major attraction near a Metro station, but far enough away for people not to want to walk there, then there will usually be fleets of Avtobuses that will travel there and back from the Metro station. Avtobuses cost around 15 - 25 Rubles and are paid in cash to the driver. There are other services provided as well, such as normal buses, but they are often for travel from outside the Moscow City area to inside the Moscow City area. |
