There are two schools of thought about the potability (drinkableness) of Moscow tap water. Some people say it is safe to drink (both Russian and Western Doctors) and some say it is not safe to drink (both Russian and Western Doctors). Our advcie is that you should NOT drink the Moscow tap water. The water is fine to use for washing, showering, shaving, laundry and cleaning dishes, but we recommend that you drink bottled water during your stay in Moscow (and Russia). For that reason we provide you with a complimentary 5L supply of bottled water upon your arrival in Moscow. We would also recommend that you use the bottled water in the kettle for making coffee and tea. Boiling tap water is we feel perfectly safe as an option, but there is a better taste and better health aspect in boiling bottled water. The same applies to cooking in water, use bottled water. Bottled water can be purchased anywhere in Moscow and comes in a variety of brands and prices to suit your budget and taste. Water will come both with our without gas.
With bottled water, more expensive does NOT mean better water. The basic cheap bottled water is perfectly okay for all drinking and cooking needs and you would only need to purchase expensive boutique water if you wanted it for special events or dietary needs. |
