What currency do I need for Russia
The official currency of the Russian Federation is the Russian Ruble and you are required to pay people with Ruble.  Some businesses will still accept USD or Euro for payment, but they are now very much in the minority, so you should assume that you are required to pay in Ruble.  If you are bringing cash with you to use in Moscow, getting supplies of Russian Ruble overseas is becoming easier, now that the Ruble has been allowed to be freely traded internationally, but you will still need to have other currencies to convert if you deal with cash.  The most widespread currency is USD and that can be exchanged almost anywhere, but for many reaons the popularity of the USD is falling.  The second currency is the Euro, which can also be exchanged everywhere and which is becoming a preferred currency to the USD.  The third currency, which has nowhere near the same popularity as the USD or Euro, is the GPB (Great British Pound).  The GPB can be exchanged at many places still and is well regarded as it has been a relatively stable currency trading at about 50 Rubles to the GBP (as at 1 January 2008) for a long time.
